I made this short in January 2001 to help me learn to use Cinema4D XL -- in particular, to get a feel for the niggly bits responsible for camera mapping and shadow catching.
The source footage was shot with my camcorder, starring an actual wooden figure (which I used as a lighting reference). The tripod used three positions marked on my office floor, and various levels of tilt and zoom which I marked down as I went along. I modeled the corner of the room and its objects with basic geometry, found the tripod positions on the virtual floor, and so aligned my virtual camera with the digitized footage. This footage is then projected on the simple geometry from the camera's point of view, including composited shadows.
